I adore fried feta cheese….it is a crispy, salty, and delicious bite, and is unlike anything else in the world. It is just perfect with a salad or other veggies on the side. I came up with this recipe several years ago for my mother, and wanted to share it again. It is a very unique and simple salad, and one of my favorites. Don’t let the simplicity of it fool you, it packs a great flavor punch! I hope you enjoy this salad 😀
Notes
#1 Make a lower fat version, by oven frying the feta cheese. Follow the same dredging procedure, but place on a greased pan in a 450 degree oven. Spray or paint oil on them, to get a crispy crust. You could also use plain panko or regular bread crumbs to oven fry. Turn when needed. Bake until golden brown.
#2 Add other vegetables on the salad, or even top with grilled chicken, to make it more of a meal.
Ingredients
Salad
- head of butter lettuce (or your favorite)
- 4 oz. baby spinach
- 1 large roasted red pepper (jarred)
- olive oil (I use extra virgin)
- salt
Pan-Fried Feta Cheese
- 1/2 lb. whole feta cheese
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup panko (Japanese style bread crumbs)
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- frying oil (canola or vegetable, or olive oil if done low and slow)
Instructions
Pan Fried Feta Cheese
- Carefully cube the feta cheese with a sharp knife and set aside (feta crumbles easily). Set up a dredging station, with one container for the eggs and milk, and one for the flour and panko. Beat the eggs and milk together. Then whisk together the panko, flour, and salt.
- Take each cube of feta cheese and dip it into the flour mixture, then the egg mixture (shake off excess), and then back in the flour mixture. Place on a large plate or platter. Repeat with each piece of feta cheese. Preheat the oil (add enough to a pan to half-way cover the cubes of cheese). Once the oil is heated, begin pan-frying in batches until golden brown on each side (flip once during the process). Place on a plate lined with paper towels and set aside.
Salad
- Chop up the roasted red peppers, spinach, and lettuce. Mix the spinach and lettuce together, and place on plates, followed by the roasted red peppers. Top the salad with several pieces of fried feta cheese and drizzle the salad with olive oil and lightly sprinkle salt on top (I only use olive oil on this salad, because there is so much flavor from the peppers and feta cheese). Enjoy!

Thank you Diana 😀 Fried feta really is delicious. You’re welcome 😀
This looks a lovely salad, Antonia, and I can honestly say, I would never have thought of frying feta (or any other cheese) in cubes like that. It’s an absolutely great idea. Together with the roasted peppers, it’s perfect. I don’t particularly like raw peppers (any colours) but I like them cooked. A really nice recipe altogether. 🙂
Thank you for the kind words Millie! Fried feta cheese is really wonderful and tastes great with salad 😀

Sounds delicious. Deep fried anything is usually better:) I will however roast my own pepper as it is so quick and easy to do over a gas flame and tastes so much nicer than the jarred version.
