I know this isn’t very fallish of me, but I had to share my tzatziki recipe. šĀ I have been making this a lot lately and just can’t get enough.Ā You can still find wonderful cucumbers in the store, so why not?Ā For those of you that aren’t familiar with tzatziki, it is made of cucumbers, Greek yogurt, and garlic.Ā It is traditionally made with dill, but not for this girl.Ā Dill can be so overpowering, and I enjoy the other flavors too much.Ā It is a versatile and delicious dip/sauce and is very healthy.Ā It is great on salads and sandwiches, and paired with chicken or beef.Ā It is also a delicious dip for chips, pita bread, or raw veggies. I love it spooned on top of broccoli, yes broccoli!Ā It is a delicious combo that I stumbled upon one day.Ā It can also be used as a salad dressing.Ā For anyone watching their calories, it is a great alternative to adding more fatty accompaniments, like cheese or dressings.Ā I hope you all enjoy my version of this classic Greek sauce/dip!
Notes
#1 Use as a sauce for sandwiches, souvlaki, gyros, and chicken or beef.
#2 Use as a dip the next time you have guests.
#3 Use unstrained or minimally strained as a delicious salad dressing.
#4 Top cooked broccoli with it. They are really tasty together.
Ingredients
- 1 Ā½ cups Greek yogurt (2% of full milk fat)
- 1 Ā½ regular garden cucumbers
- 2 large garlic cloves
- 1 tsp. salt
Instructions
- Peel and cut up the cucumbers into chunks, then peel and dice the garlic. Add all of the ingredients to a food processor and run until smooth. The tzatziki will need to strain, as it will be very runny at this stage.
- Place a large mesh strainer over a large bowl (large enough to catch the liquid). Completely line the strainer with coffee filters. Carefully pour the tzatziki from the food processor into the strainer. Cover well and place in the fridge for a minimum of 8 hours or overnight. Once strained, use a rubber spatula to remove the tzatziki from the coffee filters and strainer, and place in a sealed container in the fridge. If you want it thinner, add some of the liquid back in and stir until desired consistency has been reached.
Try it on my Greek Salad Sandwich.
I am excited to bring this to Fiesta Friday #138 (your hosts this week are Mollie of The Frugal Hausfrau and Johanne of French Gardener Dines) and Throwback Thursday #55!
I love this and make it all the time. I like to serve it with olives, hummous and pittas, with some Aleppo pepper flakes sprinkled on top.
It is really wonderful, isn’t it?
They look tempting and easy to make!!
Thank you Swapna!
This sounds wonderfully refreshing Antonia! We’ve been having a bout of hot weather (85 degrees today) so it still feels much like summer here! Hope all is well with you!
Thank you Heather! I know, right?….it is still warm here too. I am waiting for the nice crisp evenings. Things are good here and I hope they are with you as well š
I love Tzatziki and make it often. I add mint to it, instead of dill, but also like the version without herbs, like you have here. It’s so refreshing and goes so well with many foods. š
It’s wonderful, isn’t it? I love that there are so many ways to make it, and so many uses. š
Yum! Your presentation is lovely too.
Thank you so much Deborah!
It looks delicious, Antonia, and your suggestion of serving it with broccoli sounds perfect. I love broccoli – but only with a sauce, and this sounds the better alternative.
Thanks Millie! I decided to try it one day and was amazed at how well it paired. It’s my favorite way to eat broccoli, although I like it with olive oil and salt too.
Love this! Now I can’t wait to try it on broccoli! What a great idea. ANd I agree totally about the dill!
Thank you Mollie! It is so tasty š
One of the best sauces around. š You made it look so beautiful!

Thank you Diana! I hope you are having a wonderful visit!
I just love tzatziki, Antonia I am drolling over that mediterranean salad sandwich. That looks so good with the sauce. If only I could eat bread.
Me too, I could eat it everyday. Thank you for the kind words! I didn’t realize you had given up bread. Is it just for now? I have done that before on diets, and it is so hard.
I could eat taziki every day of the week with pretty much anything! Right, need to make some tonight for dinner as I am feeling inspired š
Me too, it is so delicious! I hope you enjoyed it š
