Homemade Pickle Relish

I am always interested in making food homemade.  When I am entertaining I rarely take the easy way out.  I am not a believer in ‘they’ll never know it’s not homemade,’  simply because I will know it’s not homemade.  I also like taking the opportunity to branch out and experiment a bit.  Up until last year, I had never thought of making pickle relish.  I was having a rather large cookout, and thought it would be a great opportunity to make my own relish.  Plus, my dad loves the stuff and I wanted to surprise him.  I got to work coming up with a recipe that would be unique and also pay homage to traditional pickle relish.  This relish contains several types of peppers and a combination of onions and shallots that give it huge flavor.  It is also super easy to make and can be made from start to finish, in less than 20 minutes (If you roast your red peppers, it will take a few more minutes of dedication to prep, cook, and peel your peppers).  I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.  I now make it for every cookout 🙂  It is also great as a dip/appetizer….it really is that good!

Antonia, I couldn’t agree with you more about making things homemade as opposed to buying pre-made food! I do notice the difference in taste and in appearance..and in the love and emotions that go into creating a meal for someone (even for myself!)
    This relish looks delish 🙂
I remember my parents always used pickle relish on their hotdogs…yours looks far more colorful and vibrant than the one that came from the jar!
Hope you have a lovely weekend!
PS: Are you on Instagram? I’m not on Facebook or Pinterest but I’d love to follow you if you’re on Instagram!

Thank you for the sweet compliments Lia! My father always used it too, and I was never overly fond of it. But, I really enjoy the homemade version and the variety of peppers. I am a huge cubanelle pepper fan, and was glad they worked well in it. I agree, there is no comparison to homemade, and there really is so much of yourself in what you create. It is nice to give others something you spend time and energy to make. I hope you have a nice weekend too 🙂
I am not on Instagram yet, but I will reach out to you when I am. Thank you for visiting!

        Hi Antonia!
Indeed, like you say, we put a lot of ourselves into the foods we make and how we present them on the table to our loved ones 🙂
OK, if you get on Instagram, I’d love to follow you. Your photos would be great!
Have a lovely weekend and all my very best,
