Chicken Pot Pie

Thank you to all of my wonderful readers for so many great pie ideas.  I have decided to make a pie every 6 weeks or so, using my pie bird and your ideas.  So, stay tuned for a fruit pie in March.  I decided to go savory first and use my pie bird for a chicken pot pie, which was suggested by one of my blogger friends.  Most of the fruits I wanted to use aren’t in season yet, so I am going to wait until it gets closer to spring.  I have always enjoyed pot pies, but rarely make them.  They are delicious and comforting, but oh so fattening.  They are wonderful as a treat though.  My family was super excited when I decided to make this as my first pie.  Thank you again for the idea!

When it comes to a pot pie, I want it to be double crusted and fairly simple in composition.  I love the crust on top, but I also love the wet crust on the bottom.  Yum!  I enjoy a nice gravy, with meat, peas, carrots, and onions.  Sorry, I am just not a celery girl!  A special thank you to my mother-in-law for showing me how to make the perfect gravy!  I have put together a delicious, yet simple pot pie.  I hope you give it a try when you are looking for a comforting dish or just a treat 🙂

A savory pie is perfect for chilly weather, excellent choice! It’s been a while since I’ve had a pot pie but I remember the frozen ones being a childhood favorite of mine. I only imagine that your homemade version is much tastier! Great tips on things you can make ahead of time!

That looks delicious!! I think I need to make one this weekend! So I noticed the bird has a hole, is that to release steam? Does it make a whistling sound?

Thanks Cynthia and thank you for the idea to make one 🙂 Yes, I used it to release steam, so I didn’t have to make as many slits as normal. It worked well and made a very low sound and you could see the steam coming through the mouth. I wonder if it will make more of a sound with a thicker pie. We’ll see next month 🙂 I hope you get a chance to make it!

That’s so interesting about the bird. I’ve never seen one or used one. I’m glad your pie turned out well! It looks so good!! Happy pie adventures 🙂

This looks delicious! Definitely a nice comfort f winter dinner. It isn’t something I make either but do so enjoy. Now I’m remembering a salmon pot pie I had and might have to make soon.

YUM! Look at that crust! But I have to say my favorite picture of the bird is when it is surrounded by vegetables! Looking forward to more posts, so I’ll have some ideas to use for my pie bird!

Thanks Sadie! I am glad I took one before I put the crust on. I had both my little ones beside me, while I was making it and I almost forgot 😆 Thanks so much, and I am looking forward to making a sweet pie for sure!

Such a great looking pie. Love the ceramic gadget in the middle! It looks like it really helps with keeping the steam out.

Thank you Ronit! It really does. I got it for Christmas and this was the first time I used it. It worked like a charm and was so cute sticking out of the pie 🙂

Thanks Lana, I was so happy to use it! The sound was very faint, but there was visible steam coming out of his mouth. I am wondering if there will be more of a sound when I make a thicker pie. I will let you know 🙂
