Vanilla Espresso Syrup

It’s Tips for Tuesday!

This week’s tip: Celebrate National Coffee Day, by making an espresso syrup!

What better way to celebrate National Coffee Day, than to ‘upcyle’ your coffee and make syrup 🙂

I absolutely love coffee, especially Greek and Italian varieties.  One of my favorites is espresso, either straight or in an iced latte.  Espresso has such a rich and distinct coffee flavor, and makes a delicious syrup.  This syrup is super simple to make and can be used in a variety of ways.  If you like espresso as much as I do, you will enjoy this syrup.  It is very reminiscent of coffee candy.

Use as an amazing ice-cream topping (either warm or cold) or try drizzled on toast, biscuits, pancakes, or even a cake.  I tried it on brioche recently….yum!  Use it to flavor milk (1 to 2 Tbsp added to 1 cup of milk) or for an extra punch in your iced latte.  The sky is the limit!

Stay tuned on Thursday, for a delicious Greek treat perfect to accompany your coffee!

Vanilla Cinnamon Espresso Syrup

  • 1/2 cup sugar (I use sugar in the raw)
  • 2 shots of freshly brewed espresso
  • 1/4 Tsp. real vanilla extract
  • In a pot (I use stainless for this job), combine all of the ingredients and cook over medium heat. Stir as needed until it comes to a boil. Let it continue to boil for 3 minutes, watching closely, and continue to stir as needed. You will see foaming and that is normal. Just remember not to leave it once it boils.
  • Remove from heat and use immediately or store in the fridge. I like this syrup best once it cools and begins to thicken a little more. It will hold up well for several days.

I can’t stand coffee but love things with coffee in them. This looks great and I bet a chocolate filled brioche would go well with it! Just might have to make some brioche and coffee syrup this weekend.

Yum…chocolate brioche! I have always had it plain…the chocolate addition sounds sooo good. I hope you enjoy it 🙂 Sounds like a wonderfully rich and intense combination.
