Paprika Popcorn

Paprika Popcorn

It’s time for Tuesday Tips and Tidbits!

Today is all about popcorn and how to make it more delicious and healthful.

Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks and something I tend to snack on when I am trying to lose a few pounds.  It is a delicious high fiber snack, with minimal calories.  The way I look at it, sometimes you need to stuff your face, and for me popcorn is that snack.  You can eat a fairly large amount, without a big impact.

I like making air-popped popcorn, so I start off with as few calories as possible.  I add a small amount of olive oil, followed by spices.  Extra virgin olive oil is really delicious on popcorn, and you will never miss the butter.  My favorite spice combinations to add are:  garlic and salt; paprika, garlic, and salt; cumin, garlic, and salt; turmeric, garlic, and salt.  Do you see a theme here?…lol!  I just love garlic and it always finds its way on my popcorn.  Below is the recipe for my paprika version.  Give it a try and mix up that everyday popcorn!

Popcorn

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp. sweet Spanish paprika
  • 1/2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • Pop the popcorn.
  • Pour the olive oil evenly and mix well. I don't use much oil, so I can save on calories. More oil will help the spices stick better.
  • Mix the spices together and sprinkle on the popcorn, and mix well.
  • Enjoy!

I couldn’t agree with you more Antonia! Up until recently I had been purchasing 100 calorie bags of popcorn at the grocery store but I got fed up with the high prices. Now I’ll get the plain kernels and just pop them myself. I’ve been on the lookout for an air popper to streamline the process. Is there a particular brand that you like?

It is an awesome snack Heather 🙂 I actually use one my mom gave me. She bought it in the late 70s, and it still works like a charm. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help. If mine stops working, I would have no idea where to start.
